US: Settlement with GM on Environmental Liabilities

WASHINGTON, DC, October 20, 2010 – The United States, 14 states and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe have entered into a settlement agreement with Chapter 11 debtor Motors Liquidation Company (Old GM), formerly known as General Motors Corporation, to settle certain environmental liabilities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and state environmental laws, the Justice Department announced today. A settlement agreement among the United States, the states and Old GM was filed in Manhattan bankruptcy court this morning, which the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is expected to join shortly.
