RACER is in the process of conducting environmental investigations at and near the site with technical assistance from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and will prepare a course of action to address any impacts of historical operations in conjunction with IDEM. Soils, groundwater and indoor air are being evaluated during the investigations. The investigations to date indicate minimal impacts to the eastern three-quarters of the site. The soils on the site have been fully investigated and cleanup of the soils on the site is complete per IDEM Industrial Standards. Ongoing investigations are focusing on the groundwater in the western fourth of the site and in a neighborhood to the south of the site to determine the nature and extent of groundwater impacts. Permanent monitoring wells have been installed in the neighborhood to allow groundwater to be monitored on an ongoing basis and the Trust is working with IDEM to evaluate remedial options for managing the impacted groundwater.
